Part of me wonders if our government is not doing what we want, its our fault for not paying enough attention to government.
Of course we have been distracted, and corporations tried to distract us.
Broadcast media has been a big problem. We are glued to the TV and before that radio, which disempowers us because we cannot respond. We are voiceless when it comes to media.
We were distracted by consumerism. We have college debt, mortgage, credit card debt. And we are told, to be good citizens we must pay back our debt. And if we can't, then we are punished for a long time with the penalties of bankruptcy. Then we are told to pick ourselves up by our bootstraps, like a life of work at minimal pay is everyone's solution to poverty. If you are working your ass off to pay back your debts, you are distracted, powerless and you are little more than a slave to debt.
At the end of the day, do corporations have the voice of government simply because we, in our powerlessness, do not contact our elected officials? We sit around bitching about them doing whatever they are doing but seldom remind them they really are meant to be working for us.
WE MUST TAKE BACK GOVERNMENT.
First thing we need is a constitutional amendment stating corporations are not people. SCOTUS really let, we, the people, down with that one. Doing this has clearly turned elections into auctions. If you agree with me, then write to your congress people letting them know. Your congress representative will be seeking out corporate donations for election funding so s/he can sell you on re-electing her/him.
I am angry that anti-aborts aren't treated as terrorists by the government and those people adopting that position aren't being imprisoned for terrorist activities, such as threatening members of society who disagree with them and shooting doctors who perform abortions. Their behavior is clearly unacceptable and fits into the category of terrorism.
I am furious that, even with the affordable care act, health insurance policies are still being rescinded by health insurance corporations. There should be no rescind option available to health insurance corporations. No one should get into so much debt they lose their home to pay medical bills. Everyone deserves access to quality healthcare.
Corporations are not the only ones that matter. We matter too.
Let your representatives know you are angry about their behavior, what they do. These people answer to you. You have the government you deserve.
