The internet is evil
be gone, oh evil internet, for thou art pure distraction
u come singing your siren song of 'we have information, sweet sweet information
4 your brain 2 bathe in" so I go amongst the waves, amused,
swimming, i am thinking, and before i know it I am drowned
I really can't write poetry LOL
Whats in a name?
The other day I saw someone with a PhD in their name on twitter and I gave them a high-5 because they were asking something as random as which was the best album by Bruce Springsteen. Just because someone has a PhD doesn't make them essentially different from other people.
I do have a PhD in a hard science. If you wanna talk very specific areas of the brain processes then *perhaps* I am your girl, but no, I am not an expert on everything. What I did learn in my PhD is to organize my thinking, and now I am not sure if I still do that. But I do enjoy thinking. I like analyzing assumptions & implications of what people say. Thinking is the fun-est thing you can do by yourself.
So why do I use PhD in my title? In a world full of Maries, there is a desire to standout. It really started when I was making comments on the NYTimes website. I started signing myself as Marie, then as I was reading other people's comments I noticed other Maries who were also commenting. Often I didn't want their comments confused with mine, especially since there would be dialogue between the different people commenting. Thus I started adding the PhD. In a forum such as the NYTimes, it seemed appropriate.
When the NYTimes announced they were going to paid subscription, I abandoned them for the HuffingtonPost and twitter. Since I had spent time building up this persona at the NYTimes, I thought I would keep the PhD. I am sorry I didn't take up the NYTimes offer of a free subscription now. However, I have my spiffy new blogs so you can read my writings on life & death; follow my thoughts as we look at some of the assumptions and reality of situations; and, hopefully, with your input I'll get a better perspective on things.
Ms Marvel was recommended by someone on twitter, which I thought was a pretty cool compliment! I sometimes use Ms Marvel as my avatar.

Broken Record?
Someone I used to know said to me Karl Popper only ever had one idea, but he repeated it so often it elevated the status of his idea. He did have an interesting idea, basically that nothing could ever be really proved, but things could only be disproved.
I don't think anything I say is particularly profound but I know how much stuff I miss. At the same time I am surprised at how much I do see.
I have been saying we should boycott Koch Brother's products for several years now among other corporations.
Sometimes ideas take a long time to take hold and take off. For instance, the concept of trickle down economics is still strong in some sectors of the population, it's just a lie that's been repeated enough that some people believed it. Hopefully no one still believes it now after the 2008 crash.
