There should be no doubt that humans should defined by their ability to communicate although whether this instinct would arise with our DNA would mean every other critter was born to communicate. If we can accept this then we should be able to accept the other.
From our beginning our mother/parents needed us to tell them why we cried and then we became a system of experts who communicate.
Indeed we do so much communication it is likely we know nothing about who we do it, i guess this is why there are so many fine arts courses to teach you to write novels?; how much of your high school education was devoted to you learning how to write essays....?; did you learn the names for word types in English (nouns, verbs), foreign words when learning other languages in high school? all while communicating.
We do so much communicating it's almost the Inuit problem of the 90 words for kinds of snow but no single generic word meaning snow.
while all translation means an initial rosetta stone for some alien/dead language.
